In line with Delta state government directive, a nine member Caretaker Committee has been inaugurated for the Evwreni Community in Ughelli North local government area.
The Caretaker Committee has Olorogun Emmanuel Gegere as Chairman, Clement Ishaka, Vice Chairman, Dickson Esiekpor, Secretary, while Ejiroghene Daniel Amrohore is to serve as Assistant Secretary.
Others include Olorogun Joseph Ajuge, Treasurer, Olorogun Meg Atano, Assistant Treasurer, Umukoro Otakefie, Financial Secretary, Mr Committee Omogeroh, Public Relations Officer and Madam Obu Utuede, Women Representative.
The document conveying names and positions of members of the Caretaker Committee to the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, said the development was sequel to the letter dated 6th April 2023, addressed to the Ovie of the kingdom, HRM Oghenekevwe Owin Kumane Eruvwedede 111, that he should among other things convoke a community meeting where a caretaker committee will be set up to run the affairs of the community and prepare for an election within six months.
The document entitled “Re: Implementation of Government White Paper and Report of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry into the Intra Communal Crisis in Evwreni, Ughelli North Delta State and Inauguration of Evwreni Caretaker Committee”, was endorsed by the Ovie of the kingdom, Oghenekevwe Owin Kumane Eruvwedede 111, and copied nine relevant stakeholders including the Secretary to the State Government and the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command.
It stated “after a successful deliberation of issues raised on the white paper at the well attended meeting by all the important stakeholders on Saturday 15th April 2023, the nine persons were selected into the caretaker committee.
“The following terms of reference were given to the committee which will last for six months duration. To see to the full implementation of the white paper on the Evwreni Communal Crisis, to liaise with the Commissioner of Police, Delta State for a full fledged Police Station to be established in Evwreni, and to liaise with the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ughelli, the Chairman Ughelli North local government council and other relevant agencies to see that a new vigilante is set up as stated in the government white paper.
Others include “ to liaise with relevant agencies to see that adequate compensation is paid to those who lost their properties as stated in the white paper, to liaise with the relevant security agencies to see that the corpse of Mr Tuesday Okuah is released from Abuja for burial stated in the white paper, to see to the amendment of the existing constitution of the community that will be acceptable to all the people and to liaise with the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development for the conduct of a fresh election into the Community National Executive”.
The Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, had in a correspondence signed by the Permanent Secretary and addressed to the Ovie of Evwreni, drew attention to the government white paper dated 22 November 2022 that was released in respect of the crisis in his community.
The letter reads “we wish to communicate the following;, That the tenure of the exco led by Mr Bright Adjogbe has elapsed. That the community is to convoke a meeting where a caretaker committee will be set up to run the affairs of the community and prepare for an election within six months and that names of the members of the caretaker committee and the date for the election should be communicated to the ministry”.
The ministry in the letter entitled “Re: Implementation of Government White Paper and Report of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry into the Intra Communal Crisis in Evwreni, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State”, asked for earliest response to the directive.
