Delta State Government has restated its commitment towards repositioning the public education sector to meet global standards.
Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Hon Samuel Mariere stated this during his visit to schools in Asaba and its environs to access compliance of pupils and students to the resumption of classes after the Christmas and new year holidays.
Hon Mariere stated that the board was out to Change the negative narrative of people losing confidence in the public schools.
The SUBEB Chairman explained that part of Governor Oborevwori MORE Agenda is to return the lost glory of public schools in the State by creating programs that would improve quality education and confidence of parents on public schools.
He noted that funds have been made available by the Delta State Government and Universal Basic Education Board to ensure the training and retraining of teachers in the State.
The SUBEB Chairman expressed optimism of improved teaching and learning in schools as well as outstanding academics performance by pupils and students in public schools across the state.
He charged parents to meet up to their responsibility of enrolling their children and wards in school saying it is a criminal offence for parents not to send their children or wards to school when the school is in session.
Hon Mariere, a former member of the Delta State Assembly, enjoined politicians, teachers and parents to bring back their children and wards to the public schools.
He noted that the public schools have qualified teachers who were ready to impact knowledge into the students as the board had set out measures to deal with staff that are not willing to carry out their responsibilities in with the laid down rule.
Reacting to the visit the head teacher Government Primary School GRA, Asaba, Deacon Emma Okakwu expressed satisfaction with the visit saying it would spour the teachers and staff to work extra hard.
Some of the schools visited including Government Primary School GRA, Uzoigwe Primary School and Asagba Primary School all in capital city metropolis.
On the entourage of the Chairman were the Permanent Secretary, Subeb, Mr Baron Unini, Director Quality Assurance in the board, Demes Omoniyi and Dr Samuel Ayuwe, a top official of the State Government.
