Onwo Leads Assembly Committee On Health Pledges Support For Excellence At Delsuth

The State House of Assembly Committee on Health, has visited the Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara, with a promise to help champion further achievements and accomplishments in the institution.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon Ferguson Onwo who led other members to the hospital in continuation of oversight visit to health institutions in the state, assured of the commitment of the Delta State House of Assembly towards health improvement in the state.

Hon Onwo explained that the reason for the visit was to ascertain the level of work done by the hospital, based on what was approved for it in the past budgets as appropriated by the state legislature.

“Oversight function is a core mandate of the legislature provided in the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The visit would enable us have first hand knowledge of what is on ground to enable us plan for the future, especially when you appear before us for budget defense.

“The purpose is not to witch-hunt but to help enhance the system”, Onwo stated.

 

Urging the management of the hospital to go into public private partnership, PPP to address some major needs and concerns in the institution, Hon Onwo emphasized that government alone cannot do everything.

The Lawmaker who represents Isoko South 2 Constituency in the House, appreciated the state government and the management team for the level of improvement visible in the hospital.

He assured of the members’ support in making sure that the issues bedeviling the hospital were promptly addressed.

Chief Medical Director CMD, of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, Prof Emmanuel Okolugbo while appreciating the Lawmakers for the visit, appealed to the Committee to look into the energy challenge bedeviling the hospital amongst other issues raised.

Hon Onwo flanked by other members of the Committee later took a guided tour of facilities in the hospital, including the Radiology department, and the 48 bedseater ongoing building project to accommodate House Officers.
