By Omizu Austin-Ahead of the March 6, Local Government elections in Delta State, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State on Thursday presented the party’s councillorship flag to Mr. Samuel Aroture Azu as the Party’s flag-bearer for ward 18 in the council.
The rally which was held at Oku-Elume Community attracted all the political bigwigs in the council area, with his kinsmen rolling out their local drums, singing, drumming and dancing energetically to different cultural dances, making the event looking carnival like.
The immediate past Chairman of the council, Honourable Eugene Inoaghan, who is vying for the council seat under the platform of the PDP and his campaign Chairman who is also the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Honourable Julius Egbedi, among others danced to the local rhythms, as excitements rent the air.
The various communities that made up the ward all shunned their farms to witness the ceremony.
Haven enumerated governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s achievements in the area by all the speakers, including Honourable Egbedi, Honourable Austin Ayemidejor, Olorogun Benson Okorodudu, Honourable Felix Anirah, Chief Margaret Unukegwo, among others, posited that one good turn deserved another.
While presenting the party flag to Mr Azu amidst jubilations from party supporters, family members and associates, the LGA party Chairman, Honourable Chief Perkins Umukoro, urged all to work and support the party in order to win overwhelmingly.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after receiving the party mantle to contest and win the polls in ward 18, Mr. Azu stated that he would ensure that the people got the dividends of democracy, if voted into power, promising to participate fully in the enactment of laws for speedy development of his constituency and the LGA at large.
