NEW PUBLIC HEALTH LAW FOR DELTA: ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE HOLDS PUBLIC HEARING JUNE 19

A public hearing on a bill to repeal the 69-year-old Public Health Law of 1957 in Delta State has been scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2026.

The hearing, being organized by the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Health, will hold at the Press Centre, State House of Assembly Complex, Asaba, starting at 9:30 a.m.

According to a statement by the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon (Dr) Ferguson Onwo, Deltans, particularly stakeholders in the health sector, are enjoined to attend the one-day public hearing.

The statement solicited inputs from relevant MDAs including the Ministries of Health, Environment and Justice, as well as the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency.

Other agencies expected to make input are the Delta State Hospitals Management Board, Delta State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, and other Civil Society Organizations.

The Committee requested interested MDAs, CSOs, and other stakeholders to submit 12 copies of memoranda to the Chairman, House Committee on Health, through the Clerk of the Committee, on or before Thursday, June 18, 2026.

With the proposed repeal, the Delta State Government seeks to enact a new Public Health and Hygiene Law of Delta State, 2026 to replace the obsolete 1957 law.
