Delta Assembly Passes Urban Planning Bill, Adjourns For Annual Recess. Oborevwori, Elekeokwuri Express Happiness Over The Development

The Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Bill 2020 has been read the third time and passed on the floor of the State House of Assembly.

The passage of the bill was one of the highlights of Wednesday’s plenary, before the House adjourned till Tuesday, 21st September 2021 for it annual recess.

The Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Bill is a Private Member Bill which has the Member Representing Ika North East Constituency in the House, Hon Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri as the lead sponsor.

The bill is to repeal the Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Law 2008 and enact the Administration of Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Development, Urban Renewal and Building Control Activities.

It also for the Establishment of Urban and Regional Planning Board, Local Planning Authority In Delta State and for other related matters.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Kenneth Oboro Preyor, in two separate motions, moved for suspension of the relevant rules of the House to enable it take the third reading of the bill and passed.

The motions were seconded by Hon Emomotimi Guwor, Warri SouthWest and Felix Anirah, representing Sapele Constituency.

Both motions were unanimously adopted when put to voice votes by the Speaker, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori who presided over the plenary.

The Speaker while reacting to the development, said the passed bill was in line with the commitment of the state government towards growth and progress in the state.

He commended members for recognizing the importance of the bill and for their attention and efforts towards the enactment of the new law.

The lead sponsor of the bill, Hon Anthony Elekeokwuri who is the Chairman House Committee on Public Accounts, in his reaction, described the development as awesome.

Hon Elekeokwuri stated that the third reading of the bill was another great milestone in the Seventh Delta State House of Assembly and thanked his colleagues for their support.

He also paid glowing tributes to the Speaker and the leadership of the House for encouragement, stressing that effective implementation of the 81 sections bill will bring sanity to urban centers across the state.
