Oborevwori Expresses Commitment To Advancing Delta Through Quality Laws, Commends Onwo’s Dexterity To Duty

Governor elect and Speaker of the Delta State Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has said that the State Legislature under his watch would continue to give needed attention to bills and motions that would further advance development in the state.

Rt Hon Oborevwori in his reactions to the passage of five executive bills, a day after they were sent to the Assembly by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for processing, commended the Majority Leader, Hon Ferguson Onwo for hard-work, dexterity to duty and commitment to the accelerated actions on the bills.

By constitutional provisions, the Majority Leader of the legislature is the eye of the Governor in the Assembly, hence the task of canvassing the position of the executive in any proposed bill and solicit the support of other lawmakers.

The Wednesday’s plenary of the House was therefore a herculean assignment for the Majority Leader, Ferguson Onwo as he presented five bills for first, second and third readings as well as subsequent passage.

Pleased with his performance, the Governor elect and Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, acknowledged the efforts of Hon Onwo to meeting up on the task before the House.

Rt Hon Oborevwori who took time to explain the importance of each of the bills to the state and its people, said the Majority Leader succeeded in digesting the merits of the five proposed laws, despite the enormity of work.

The Speaker said the Bill that seeks to upgrade the School of Health Technology to the College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ufuoma-Ughelli is to reposition the Institution to meet global standards in providing the requisite training for middle-level healthcare delivery services in the Delta State and beyond.

Oborevwori stated that by virtue of the proposed law the Institution will be at par with its counterparts nationwide and attract more candidates seeking training and certification in middle-level healthcare delivery services from all over the Country.

On the successful passage of the Bill seeking to upgrade the Delta State School of Marine Technology, Burutu into a Polytechnic, the Governor elect said the move became necessary in order to reposition the Institution to enable it access the Tertiary Education Trust Fund and other grants, including Education Trust Fund that are much needed for its infrastructural development.

Oborevwori explained that the increasing demand for citizens of the State to have access to Justice in record time, brought about the bill to amend the High Court law of the state.

The Speaker said the amendment is aimed at increasing the number of Judges of the High Court of Delta State from 40 to 45 in order to eliminate delays often experienced in the administration of Justice in the State.

On the Bill that seeks to provide for the development and promotion of the Creative Industries in Delta State by establishing the Creative Industries Development Fund, encouraging Public-Private Partnerships, and providing incentives for creative workers, Oborevwori described it as a step in the right direction for for the State.

He said the proposed law will contribute significantly to the development and growth of the Creative Industries in the State, which will in turn foster economic growth and enhance our cultural heritage.

The Governor elect and Speaker pointed out that there was a great need to dedicate a day for the expression of gratitude for the blessings, achievements, and resilience of the people of Delta State, hence the bill for a law to designate May 29 every year as a day of thanksgiving.

Oborevwori stated that it is his humble prayer that God in his infinite goodness and mercies will continue to bless all Deltans and Delta State in general.

He thanked the lawmakers for participating actively throughout the consideration of the bills.
