Dr. Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Orientation and Communications, unveiled compelling insights into the advantages of engaging foreign contractors over indigenous contractors during the recent flag-off construction project of 78 billion naira, presided over by His Excellency, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday, 27th November 2023.

Stressing that only 25% of the contract amount had been disbursed dispelled speculations of a lump sum payment circulating throughout Delta State.
Furthermore, he underscored the indispensable role of indigenous contractors, assuring that they remain pivotal and will continue to be engaged in projects that align with their expertise and capabilities. Emphasizing the necessity of specialized expertise and sophisticated machinery for certain projects, Dr. Oghenesivbe reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring optimal management, financial discipline, and quality delivery—a core tenet embodied by foreign contractors.
Dr. Latimore debunked the notion that indigenous contractors must settle the government or its agencies from the bid sum allocated to the contract, asserting that any such actions would not be condoned. He emphasized the government’s stance against corruption, highlighting the aspiration for enduring, high-quality projects that transcend the current administration.
He further emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering projects that stand the test of time, stressing the importance of using taxpayers’ money to ensure the delivery of exceptional and long-lasting infrastructure.
