DELTA GOVERNMENT SETS TO ENHANCE CAPACITY OF PRIMARY SCHOOLS TEACHERS AS 1,650 SELECTED FOR BASED MODEL TRAINING

In its avowed commitment to advancing quality of Primary Education in Public Schools in Delta State, the State Government has announced a one week Based Model Training for Public Primary School Teachers across the twenty five local government areas of the State.

Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Hon (Chief) Samuel Mariere who disclosed this in an interview in his office in Asaba, said the programme is scheduled to commence on Monday, 22nd of this month and a total of One Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty Teachers have been selected for the training.

Mariere assured state government’s readiness to reposition the education sector in the State, stressing that the essence of the exercise is to enhance the capacity of the primary school teachers as well as motivate them for better service delivery.

The SUBEB Chairman, while emphasizing resolve of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to reversing the ugly trend and negative impression about public schools, noted that majority of the leaders in the society today were product of public schools, even as he charged key stakeholders in primary and basic education sub-sector to take their jobs seriously to restore the lost glories.

The former Lawmaker reiterated the importance of training and retraining for teachers, stressing on the need for those selected in the upcoming programme to take the exercise seriously as there will be sanctions for failure to attend or complete the one week training which is expected to be very intensive.

Hon Mariere explained that the based model training programme is being put together by the state government in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Board.

He said transport, feeding and other allowances will be made available for participants at the end of the exercise.

The SUBEB Boss also disclosed that resource persons who are lecturers from Colleges of Education and Faculty of Education in Universities, had earlier in Abuja underwent train the trainers programme, ahead of the exercise in Delta State.

Mariere stated that for easy access and to avoid participants traveling in a long distance to centers, thirty three venues have been arranged for the programme, and that the training sessions will be going on simultaneously across the centers.

He named the approved centers to include; Martin Primary School, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North, Ase Primary School, Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South, Olou Primary School, Bomadi, Ngbile Primary School, Kaigbodo, Burutu, Erhijere Model Primary School, Kokori and Agbon Primary School, Isiokolo, Ethiope East, Idjerehe Primary School, Jesse, Ethiope west, Ngala Primary School, Boji-Boji Owa and Ogbe Model Primary School, Umunede, Ika North East, and Erigbe Primary School, Agbor, Ika South.

Other approved centres include Odion Primary School, Emevor, Isoko North, Ozaha Primary School and Evojah Primary School, Oleh, Isoko South, Ozoma-Uku Primary School, Ashaka and Egedi Primary School, Ibrede, Ndokwa East, Iyiatu Primary School, Utagba-Ogbe, Ndokwa West, Ogiendo Primary School, Jeddo, Okpe, Ugbolu Primary School, Ugbolu and Ugwuatakpo Primary School, Ibusa, Oshimili North, Abu-Ato Primary School 1, Asaba, Oshimili South, and Uduovie Primary School, Odorubu, Patani.

Also selected as centers for the conduct of the training are, Ukpiovwin Primary School, Ukpiovwin, Udu, Otovwodo Primary School, Otovwodo and Agbarho Model Primary School, Agbarho, Ughelli North, Ughievwen Model Primary School, Otu-Jeremi and Ewu Primary School, Ewu, Ughelli South, Ukwuole Primary School, Obi-Ukwuole, Ukwuani, Army Children Primary School, Army Barracks, Effurun, Uvwie, Urhiapele Primary School and Abbot Primary School, Sapele, Akuarajor Primary School, Koko, Warri North, Mowoe Primary School, Warri, Warri South and Ojojo Primary School, Warri, for participants from Warri South West.

Hon Mariere said there would be regular visits to the centers by officials of the board all through the week long programme, aimed at ensuring compliance to the rules of engagement by both the trainers and the teachers.
