OBOREVWORI APPLAUDS ONAJITE FOR FOSTERING GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL GROWTH IN DELTA

The Delta State Sports Commission Chairman, Mr. Onoriode Joshua Oborevwori commended High Chief Peter Onajite Esiovo for organizing the Oviorie community super cup football competition, held at Oviorie in Ethiop East Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Delta State Sports guru made this commendation why addressing newsmen at the venue of the competition, praising the efforts of High Chief Peter Onajite in fostering local talent and promoting grassroots football.

He highlighted the importance of such initiatives which was inline with the M. O. R. E. Agenda of His Excellency Rt Hon Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, in identifying and nurturing young athletes who have the potential to represent the state and the nation on larger platforms.

In his address, the Chairman of the Sports Commission emphasized that community competitions not only enhance the skills of the players but also serve as a vital pipeline for discovering talent for professional clubs, and national teams. He encouraged more community Leaders to emulates Chief Onajite by engaging in organizing similar events, as they play a crucial role in the development of football in the State.

Mr. Oborevwori said that his support for grassroots football is a testament to his commitment to elevating Delta State’s presence in the national sports arena.

Meanwhile , in the final match of the Oviorie community super cup, Sir. P United played a 1-1 draw with Evomic at the end of full time and regulation time, which led both teams to a penalty shootout with Sir. P United emerging as winners after beating Evomic 5-4, during the penalty shootout.

The football final event which was well attended by notable football technocrats, administrators, and top government functionary, among whom was one of Nigeria finest football coach and sports Administrator, Mr. Fanny Ikhayere Amun who took the Nigeria national
Under-17 team to victory at the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup Championship in Japan, the Chief Host and Sponsor of the competition, High Chief Peter Onajite Esiovo, and others, was seen as a spring board for development of football among the youths in the Oviorie community.
