Delta State Executive Council has approved the full payment of the 2025 state counterpart fund for the Universal Basic Education, UBE.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Subeb, Hon (Chief) Samuel Mariere who disclosed this, said the approved counterpart fund amounted to Six point Seven Billion Naira.
Hon Mariere told our Correspondent that Delta is the first state in the federation to approve the full payment of the UBE counterpart fund for 2025, saying that the development will further strengthen the state’s leading position in the education sector.
Mariere, a two terms member of the Delta State House of Assembly and former Commissioner for Water Resources Development in the state, explained that under the UBE Programme, States are expected to draw from the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC fund annually upon paying of the counterpart fund.
The elated Subeb Boss commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his love and commitment to basic education in the state, pointing out that a lot have been achieved in the sub-sector in the last two years.
Mariere also paid glowing tribute to the Governor for his transformation leadership in the state, stressing that his financial prudence and accountability had resulted in achieving great things without records of borrowing to execute his people’s oriented projects and programmes.
“Delta is the first state in Nigeria to approve full payment of 2025 counterpart funding of 6,714,084,395.55. This has been done without borrowing from any bank. His Excellency, Governor Sherrif Oborevwori has once again shows his commitment to basic education”, the Subeb Chairman stated.
The former Lawmaker appreciated the Commissioner for Primary Education in the state for his strong support to Subeb in changing the narratives in basic education in Delta State.
