We Have Mandate To Arrest, Detain, Investigate And Prosecute Law Breakers –NSCDC Tells Nigerians

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has been described as one of the lead agency in providing effective and efficient internal security coverage within its statutory Mandate. These were the statement of the Delta NSCDC Public Relations Officer DSC Emeka Peters Okwechime on a radio programe in Asaba the Delta State Capital.

The Delta NSCDC Brand Manager said that the Corps is saddled with numerous responsibilities and functions of protecting life and property amongst others which also has the statutory powers to arrest, detain, investigate and prosecute any one who is sufficiently suspected to have committed an offence or a crime against the civil population or the Country.

The Marketing Manager of the NSCDC posited that people should acquaint themselves with the requisite knowledge about the functions, duties and powers of the NSCDC in order not to claim ignorant of the extant laws, functions and powers of the NSCDC.

Dsc Emeka Peters maintained that Section 3 sub-section 1f, of the NSCDC Act 2007 as amended confers the constitutional Powers to arrest, with or without a warrant, detain, investigate and prosecute any one causing public disorder, breaching public peace, involved in criminal activity, frustrating government program or policies, chemical poison, oil spillage, operating illegal security outfit, Human/child trafficking, nuclear waste, fraud, Vandalisation, religious unrest, cult and ethnic militia activities and many more.

The NSCDC Image Maker, DSC Emeka Peters Okwechime advised the general public to make haste to read, study and digest the functions, duties and Powers of the NSCDC in the NSCDC Act 2003 and 2007 as amended for their own interest.

The NSCDC Spokesman said that the Corps is spiritually committed to serve the Civilian Population and the Nation at large in the best practices of international standard of professionalism if all necessary machineries are adequately and timely provided. The Corps will do exploits positively if properly funded, maintained, equiped, Staff welfare, Officers Mess/Barracks and other necessary incentives are provided for the personnel. He said that irrespective of the numerous and logistical challenges facing the Corps, the NSCDC remains one of the most prestigious security institution that have kept faith both with the civilian population and the government of Nigeria at all level.

DSC Emeka Peters used the opportunity to call on all well meaning Nigerians, NGOs, Civil Organisation, Private and public bodies to reach out to the Corps in the areas of numerous official and logistical challenges so that we can serve you better, that every one can sleep with their two eyes closed Dsc Emeka Peters said.
