DTHA 2023: Anirah Too Old To Contest Again – Nwakego

The Senior Special Assistant on Security to the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Delta State Frontline gubernatorial aspirant, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Mr Sunday Nwakego has knocked the chances of the current House of Assembly member representing Sapele Constituency, Hon Felix Anirah reelection on account of old age.

Nwakego, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sapele Ward 1 in a statement on Friday after a press conference in his office along Ajogodo road in Sapele, also said it would be against the run of play and natural justice for any aspirant from the Ward to show interest in the House of Assembly election within the Peoples’ Democratic Party since aspirants from the Ward has always produce the house of Assembly member.

Nwakego also urged the former Sapele council chair to forget his personal ambition and keep to his promise in 2019 when he was campaigning then, that he was only going for a tenure.

“In 2018, during campaign, he  assured us that he would go for one tenure. I don’t want anyone to put him under pressure after he had said he won’t contest for second term” Nwakego said.

It defeats all sense of logic for such an old man to attempt another round of political contest at a time the general feeling and mood in the country supports a younger candidate”

He also accused Hon Anirah for failing to live up to his promise of building a Secretariat for the party, adding he is not judging him from that, “We are only advising him to go and sit down and see how he can encourage the younger aspirants He doesn’t need to contest for that position he should be the one advising the youth. He is more than 70years If he want to contest he should contest for the position of a Senator” he emphasized.

“For me, Hon Anirah should drop his quest for House of Assembly and support a younger candidate from another ward in the spirit of fairness, equity and justice, that will assuage the feelings of stakeholders from the party in Sapele.
