8th Delta Assembly: We Are in Good Shape to Face the Task Before Us… Guwor

Ahead of the first plenary of the 8th Delta State Assembly after inauguration, the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor says members are in good shape for the task ahead.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen at Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa-Ibom State, Guwor disclosed that the 8th Delta Assembly was set to join forces with every critical stakeholders in promoting peace and development in state.

The Speaker stated that any strategic plan that would benefit the people and enhance good governance in the state will receive the approval and support of the Delta State Legislature.

He explained that as the Assembly settles down for legislative business, there are great expectations from Deltans and that members have resolved never to disappoint the people.

Pointing out that unity and stability of the House was key to achieving the set goals, Rt Hon Guwor promised effective collaboration with the Executive and Judicial arms of government to ensure sustainable growth in the state.

The Speaker said Deltans made the right choice by massively voting for Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori as Governor and head of the new government of Delta State.

He described Oborevwori as a man of the people, even as he expressed optimism that all sectors of the state would be celebrated at the end of the four year tenure as the administration understands the state, the people and their needs.

Guwor maintained that what is most needed was an unalloyed support from the people and friends of Delta State, saying that unnecessary distractions can only slow down development in the state.

“Rt Hon Oborevwori is one person that grew up in the street of Delta. He understands the people and their pains. By the grace of God, Deltans will not regret voting him as their Governor. He is not the type of politician that come from the blues during elections. Oborevwori has been with the people, he knows them, they know him and I can assure you that he is going to do more for the people”, the Speaker said.

Guwor explained further that the new government has promised to achieve more Deltans, saying that the Governor would not renege in his promises.

He assured that the 8th Assembly would give legislative backing to policies and programmes of the Executive geared towards massive human capital and infrastructural development in the state.

 

The Speaker noted that as a bridge between the young and the elderly, he would protect the interest of the youths as well as ensure that the integrity of the older ones were not trample upon.

“My election as Speaker of the 8th Assembly was widely celebrated by the youth. They see me as one of them and I can never disappoint them. I can also not take for granted the counsels of the elders. I am a bridge between the generations. I can never afford to fail. All that is needed is patience, understanding and support of all stakeholders”, Guwor stated.

He said the strength for good governance lies on the support of the people, including the youth, women and the elderly and emphasized the need for all to make positive impacts on the goals and aspirations of the new government of Delta State.
