Sports Icon Award On Ogba, Well Deserved … Ferguson Onwo

The Member Representing Isoko South 2 Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon (Chief) Ferguson Onwo, has described the Sports Icon Award on Chief Solomon Ogba as well deserved.

Hon Onwo who was one of the eminent personalities in the country that witnessed decoration of Chief Ogba with the award at a ceremony held at Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos on Friday, said the recipient has achieved so much in sports development in Nigeria.

The Lawmaker stated that Chief Ogba left solid legacies as Sole Administrator, Delta State Sports Commission, and later Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in Delta State.

 

Onwo maintained that there were also many positive narratives in the sporting world while reflecting on Chief Ogba’s years as President, Nigeria Athletic Federation and 2nd Vice President Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC.

The Lawmaker paid glowing tribute to the renowned Sports Administrator on the Sports Icon Award and commended Sportsville Special Awards Committee for recognizing Ogba’s outstanding records in sports development in Nigeria.

Onwo who described Chief Ogba as a brother, friend, mentor and boss, having served him as Senior Special Assistant when he was on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, pointed out that the Sports Icon Award bestowed on him would spur him to contribute more to the development of sports in Nigeria.

 

“Chief Solomon Ogba’s achievements in sports earned him the title “Igwe of Sports”. So it was not surprising that he was nominated for the award. His legacies in sports development is massive and still counting.

“Ogba has been my leader and boss for many years. Award of this nature can only spur him to do more for the growth and development of sports in Nigeria.

 

“I rejoice with him for the award, I congratulate my constituents, the people of Isoko nation and Deltans for the well deserved honour on one of us, the person of Chief Solomon Ogba, “the Igwe of Sports”.

“It is well merited and honour to Delta State. The present leadership of the State led by Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has promised Deltans MORE. And I expect nothing less, but more laurels on Deltans”, Onwo said.
