The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday mourned the passing of a notable politician and statesman from Warri South, Dr. Joseph Sisami Otumara, who died on June 12, 2026.
The member representing Warri South 1 Constituency, Hon. Augustine Uroye, PhD, informed the House of the demise during plenary, describing Dr Otumara as a distinguished son of Delta whose service to the state spanned decades.
Hon Uroye told the Speaker and members that the late Otumara served Delta State meritoriously in various capacities, including three-time Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council and three-time Commissioner and member of the State Executive Council.
The lawmaker disclosed that until his demise, Dr Otumara was Chairman of the Warri-Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, a position he held with dedication until June 12, 2026, when he passed on.
Hon Uroye described the death as painful but expressed gratitude to God for the life of service and sacrifice lived by the late politician and medical doctor, who served Delta State as Commissioner for Housing and later Health.
In his response, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, expressed heartfelt condolences to Hon Uroye, the family of the deceased, the people of Warri South, the Delta South Senatorial District, and Delta State at large.
The Speaker prayed for the repose of the soul of Dr Otumara and urged the family and constituents to take solace in the fact that he left enduring legacies in governance and humanity.
Dr Otumara died at the age of 65.
