The Delta State House of Assembly on Tuesday proceeded on a six-week annual recess to enable members to refresh and attend to other priorities.
The motion for the adjournment was moved by the Leader of the House, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, seconded by Hon. Pereotu Oloye, Burutu II Constituency, and unanimously adopted at plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.
Before hitting the gavel to formally seal the recess, Rt. Hon. Guwor commended members for their diligence, dedication and commitment to duty in the last legislative session.
The Speaker expressed appreciation to the lawmakers for their hard work and urged them to take advantage of the break to enhance their legislative capacity through scheduled training programmes.
He also charged members to use the recess period to reach out to their constituents, interface with them on government policies and programmes, and bring back their needs and aspirations to the House for legislative attention.
“Dear colleagues, I must commend all of you for your hard work, commitment and dedication to the service of our people. I encourage you to seize the opportunity of the forthcoming training to equip yourselves with more legislative insight that will further improve your performance”, the Speaker said.
Guwor also praised the management and staff of the Delta State House of Assembly for their professionalism and unwavering support, noting that their dedication has contributed significantly to the smooth operation of the legislature.
The Speaker further acknowledged the role of the media in giving visibility to the activities of the legislature, commending members of the press for their consistent, balanced and responsible coverage of House proceedings, committee sittings and oversight engagements.
While urging journalists to continue partnering with the Assembly in keeping the public informed about its activities, Guwor appreciated all other stakeholders for their contributions to the smooth running of legislative business and the passage of people-oriented bills and motions.
He prayed for journey mercies for all as they travel and urged them to return refreshed and ready for more robust legislative activities when the House resumes.
The House is expected to resume plenary on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
