Capacity Building: SUBEB, UBEC Set To Train Officers On Enhancing Climate Change, Greening Curricular In Delta Schools

The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, will hold a two-day state-level step-down training and sensitization programme for Greening Schools and Climate Change Initiative, GSCCI, Desk Officers.

The training, scheduled for Tuesday, September 8 to Wednesday, September 9, 2026, will hold at the SUBEB Conference Hall, Maryam Babangida Way, Off Okpanam Road, Asaba by 10:00 a.m. daily.

According to a statement signed by the Executive Chairman of Delta SUBEB, Hon. (Chief.) Samuel O. Mariere, participants will include GSCCI Desk Officers from the 25 Local Government Education Authorities, LGEAs, across Delta State, as well as Delta SUBEB Special Programme Officers.

Mariere stated that the Greening Schools and Climate Change Initiative, GSCCI, is a strategic programme aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in basic education through climate change awareness and environmentally responsible practices.

He revealed that the training is designed to equip GSCCI Desk Officers and Special Programme Officers with the knowledge, skills, and implementation strategies required to effectively coordinate, supervise, monitor and drive the successful implementation of the initiative across schools within their respective LGEAs.

“It is also intended to build the capacity of participants who will, in turn, cascade the knowledge and skills acquired to relevant stakeholders within their LGEAs, thereby ensuring effective implementation of the initiative”, the SUBEB Chairman said.

He noted that the programme with the theme: “Enhancing the Implementation of Climate Change and Greening Curricular”, has the overall goal of fostering environmentally sustainable schools and working together for a greener future.

Hon Mariere urged all invited participants to attend promptly and be seated before the commencement of each day’s programme.
