The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, Wednesday, led a high-powered delegation of Management and Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards, SUBEBs, on an inspection tour of Uzoigwe Primary School and the Delta-SUBEB headquarters in Asaba to assess the State’s technology-driven basic education initiatives and digital education management systems.
The inspection visits were part of activities for the 30th Quarterly Meeting of the basic education stakeholders in Nigeria, holding at the Unity Hall, Delta State Government House, Asaba.
The delegation, including the Deputy Executive Secretary of UBEC, Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs from the 36 States and the FCT as well as senior education officials, was taken through innovative teaching and learning facilities designed to improve learning outcomes and strengthen education administration by the host Chairman, Hon Samuel Mariere.
The tour formed part of the meeting’s knowledge-sharing activities, giving participants the opportunity to understudy best practices that could be replicated across the states of the federation.
At Uzoigwe Primary School, the visiting team were introduced to the technology-enabled learning environment, where modern digital equipment is integrated into classroom instruction and the curriculum.
They observed how the school operates as an effective digital learning centre, with facilities that support interactive teaching, digital content delivery and virtual connectivity for learning beyond the traditional classroom.
The delegation also received a presentation on Delta State’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data-enabled education environment, the Attend360 initiative.
Officials explained that the platform runs on a dedicated server where language models are trained and managed, creating an integrated digital ecosystem that supports teaching, learning and education administration.
The platform also provides real-time data that enables education managers to monitor school activities, improve planning and make informed decisions for better service delivery.
Speaking during the visit, Dr Garba expressed appreciation to the pupils and parents who took time out of their holiday to welcome the delegation to the school.
The Executive Secretary described the reception as heartwarming and commended the children for their discipline, respectfulness and exemplary conduct, noting that such values reflect the quality of education and moral instruction being imparted in the school.
She also praised the youthful teaching workforce, observing that they possess the energy and capacity to embrace digital innovation and are well positioned to drive technology-enabled teaching and learning in Nigeria’s basic education sector.
The delegation later proceeded to the D-SUBEB headquarters, where they were taken through a demonstration of the Attend360 digital attendance management platform.
The system, which enables real-time monitoring of staff attendance, was showcased as part of the Board’s digital transformation initiatives aimed at strengthening accountability, improving workforce management and enhancing efficiency in the delivery of basic education across the State.
The Executive Chairman, D-Subeb, Hon Samuel Mariere, said the visit underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation and the exchange of best practices in advancing basic education in the country.
According to him, it also reinforced the commitment of UBEC and State Universal Basic Education Boards to leveraging technology to improve access, quality and governance in basic education, in line with federal and states government renewed drive for quality basic education in the country.
