Delta Assembly To Hold Public Hearing On Three Proposed Universities

The Delta State House of Assembly will on Friday 19th February 2021, hold public hearing on three bills forwarded to it by the State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to establish three new universities in State.

The Chairman, House Committee on Education, Hon Charles Emetulu in a statement, named the Bills to include the Delta State University of Education, Agbor establishment Bill, Delta State University of Science and Agriculture, Anwai, establishment Bill and Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, establishment Bill.

The statement said the public hearing scheduled for 10am at the Press Center, Delta State House of Assembly Complex, Asaba, is in pursuant of the mandate to the Committee for inputs from critical stakeholders and other interested members of the public in the making of the proposed law.

Those expected to make written or oral contributions include State Commissioners for Higher Education, Basic and Secondary Education, Technical Education, the Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Rectors and Provosts of Delta State Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, Civil Society Organizations, Proprietors of Private Educational Institutions in Delta State, Professional Bodies, and Private Sectors, among others.

The statement adds that all memoranda should be enclosed in sealed envelopes, marked “A bill for a law to establish three universities in Delta State, address to the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Delta State House of Assembly and to reach the Committee Secretary on or before the date of the public hearing.

It noted that persons willing to give oral testimony should contact the Committee Secretary, Mr Austin Uwasike at the Delta State House of Assembly Complex, Okpanan road, Asaba or on telephone number 08037716288 between the hours of 9am and 2pm.
