The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, accompanied by his wife, Temiebi, on Saturday joined other members of the State Assembly, families, friends and well-wishers for the traditional marriage ceremony of the daughter of the member representing Oshimili North Constituency, Hon. Frank Esenwah.
The bride, Barr. Ogochukwu Esenwah, was joined in matrimony with Chukwuma Okwunulu in a colourful ceremony that showcased the rich cultural heritage of Nnewi in Anambra State and Illah in Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State.
The event attracted dignitaries from all walks of life, including top government functionaries, lawmakers and their spouses, political community leaders and other stakeholders.
Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was represented at the occasion by the State Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, while the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, was represented by the Deputy Chief of State, Hon Chris Osakwe.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Guwor described marriage as a sacred institution and urged the couple to build their home on the foundation of love, mutual respect, understanding and the fear of God.
In a goodwill message conveyed to newsmen by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker praised the young couple for making their parents proud and prayed to God to sustain their union.
He congratulated Hon. Frank Esenwah and his family, and the entire Okwunulu family on the joyous occasion, and charged Ogochukwu and Chukwuma to be patient with each other, support one another, and keep God at the center of their home.
Guwor also prayed that the union brings peace, prosperity and pride to both families, stressing that such cross-state marriages help to preserve traditions and strengthen the bond between states of the federation.
The traditional rites were performed amid pomp, music and dance, reflecting the rich Igbo cultural heritage of both Nnewi in Anambra and Illah in Delta.
The ceremony was well attended by dignitaries from across the country.
